I’ve had this draft post sitting around for months and months so it’s about time I actually posted about where to find vegemite in Paris.
I could go into detail about what vegemite is but if you don’t know what it is then you probably wouldn’t be looking for it.
Vegemite in Paris
When I first lived in Paris in 1999, you could only get vegemite from Galeries Lafayette and maybe at La Grande Epicerie but all that has changed. You can now get good old Aussie vegemite from Carrefour. Where in Carrefour? In the British section, of course.
I’m Australian and have to say I’m not a huge fan of vegemite (although I did have some on my baguette this morning for breakfast) but it’s nice to always have some in fridge, just in case. If you’re not an Aussie and have never tried it, I’d say don’t bother as there’s a 99.99% chance you won’t like it

Whoa, whoa, back up….
You keep your vegemite in the FRIDGE???? I never heard of that before…
Most French people who’ve tasted vegemite tell me they think it’s like a cross between roquefort and soy sauce…
Well, yeah, of course!
I did a bit of research and it looks like most people keep it in the pantry but why????
Whenever I open a bottle or jar of something I automatically put it in the fridge, vegemite included – it’s normal!
There’s even a Facebook group for it, lol.

Hello there!
I just found a quaint super English food and products with a friendly atmosphere at THE ENGLISH SHOP at 10 Rue Mesnil Paris 16 M° Victor Hugo. It is great! You can even find fresh Wall’s pork sausages and fresh English bacon either smoked or un-smoked. And of course Heinz baked beans and Wall’s pork pies! I gave them a call at 01 45 53 11 40 before going and I got a great phone welcome! Finally a friendly English Shop round the corner??
Let me know how you got on…!
Eduard
oh! I forgot! of course you can find Marmite and…Vegemite too!! ;°)
No offense but sausages, bacon, baked beans and pork pies all sound disgusting to me but hey, I’m not English
Nontheless, thanks for the info and I’ll check it out next time I’m in the area just to see if they have anything appealing
Don’t knock it if you don’t know it…
Duck à l’orange or frog legs or Lapin à la moutarde were not my ideal meals but since I tried them Wow! Amazing! Just love them!
Maybe you should try a roasted lamb leg with mint sauce? Of course The English Shop mint sauce… you might just love it too…
I still have to resolve to try Vegemite though…but I need courage…but of course I am not Australian… lol
Best
Eduard
Haha, I get you point but still…
Do you own/work at that shop?
Nope, just came across it…
Hi Andrea .. I like Bacon and beans but not Pork Pies .. I am with Eduard .. tried Vegemite but not my thing.. Love Marmite though. We have Vegemite in the cupboard, hubby thought it was the same thing … No way is it.. but then I am not Australian either .
Our Marmite is not kept in the fridge just the normal cupboard.
I guess when you grow up with these things it’s completely normal but it’s horrible for everyone else, lol! To each his own
