I remember that street very well. I loved Ljubljana, particularly after Croatia. All the people were friendly and looked happy. We spent a wonderful afternoon cycling around and outside the city even if we did end up pulling our bikes up and down a hilly forest road that wasn’t made for bikes at all.
Just about everyone I’ve spoken to loved Ljubljana but I wasn’t that crazy about it. I had always wanted to go and then when I got there I felt disappointed when it wasn’t how I’d imagined. Looking back on my photos now, it looks so pretty. I’m sure I will appreciate it more next time I visit. I think cycling would be a great way to see the city, I might try that next time, even if the terrain is a bit tough! Did you not like Croatia?
It’s not that I didn’t like Croatia – I really loved most of it – the people looked so unhappy and we drove through some pretty shell-shocked areas, it’s the relief I felt when I saw the smiling faces in Ljubljana. You’ll find info on cycling there in my blog: http://www.aussieinfrance.com/2011/12/another-country-another-language-from-taipei-to-ljubljana.
That’s so funny that you say that because I found the Croatians to be extremely friendly, going out of there way to help us and chat with us. I absolutely adore everything about that country. It’s funny how people can have such different experiences of the same place.
That was quite an adventurous bike ride you had in Ljubljana. I don’t think I could ever do that but I plan to go back this summer so we’ll see.
I haven’t explained this very well. The people were friendly – we had some lovely experiences – but they often seemed sad. I
After we had gone up and down the forest road, we discovered that, if we’d had map to check (the tourist office could only give us a map of the bike routes closest to the city) we could have gone round the hill!
