Travel Photo: Cologne

Cologne Cathedral

UNESCO World Heritage Site Cologne Cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge.

Since 2008 people have been placing ‘love locks’ on the bridge and there are now thousands of locks on the fence between the footpath and the train tracks. Iain from MalloryOnTravel wrote about Cologne’s love locks and most comments seem to be in favour of them but I’m not so sure. I know the love locks on the Ponts des Arts in Paris are regularly removed by the authorities but in Cologne they seem to be accepted. What do you think, romantic or an eyesore?

  1. I think love locks are an interesting concept, but it almost feels like they’ve become too “mainstream” – collections of these locks are now popping up all over the place. I don’t know, they just seem like one of those things that has a better impact when it’s really unique.

I know what you mean, I’ve seen love locks in so many different cities now. I wonder if it’s just a fad and everyone will get bored with the concept in a year or two?
