Orly

It’s not often I leave a movie half way through but I had to with Orly.

Amidst the impersonal hubbub of Paris’ Orly Airport, strangers meet, secrets are revealed, and sudden intimacies develop in this beautifully observed mosaic of lives in transit.

I don’t know if the volume was too low or the background noise was too high but I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. Plus the actors, in particular Bruno Todeschini, seemed to mumble all their lines! Maybe it was his Swiss accent (does he have a Swiss accent? lol), I don’t know. All I know is that I couldn’t follow what they were saying and I was feeling particularly impatient, so I left. I thought it was going to be a good movie too, but it seemed like a bit of a snore to me.

Ce Que Je Veux de Plus

Ce Que Je Veux de Plus

Why are there so many movies about infidelity? Is this what goes on in the real world?

I’m always fascinated by this kind of movie, knowing it can only end badly. But love and attraction are strange phenomenon which are hard to resist. Do you stick with your nice, caring partner or leave for passionate love?

I really enjoyed this Italian film even though it was a bit slow at the beginning and ended up being quite sad.

Donne Moi Ta Main

Donne-Moi Ta Main (Leap Year) definitely ranks amongst the worst movies of the year. I only saw it because it was the only movie playing when I got to the cinema. I thought it would be ok as a ‘pass the time’ kinda movie but it was shockingly bad. The plot makes no sense whatsoever and everything about it was ridiculous. It wasn’t even funny.

Norteado

Slow moving Mexican film about a guy trying to cross the border at Tijuana into the United States. Kinda sweet, kinda strange and a bit too slow for my liking.

White Night Wedding

It seems to me that the further north you go, the stranger the people get. Well, if you believed everything you see in their films, that is.

White Night Wedding is an Icelandic film, set in the middle of summer when it’s light all day and all night long. That’s kinda weird in itself. This is part comedy, part drama. Would have been better as one or the other.

Sex and The City 2

Who am I kidding, I knew it was going to be crap but I just couldn’t resist. For serious SATC fans only.

Tamara Drewe

I saw this cute little English movie today. Tamara Drewe goes back to the little village where she grew up with intentions of selling her late mother’s house. Once there she manages to get in trouble with the locals and all the men who seem to be after her. Quite a quirky movie with some of the characters kind of half done but it was fun anyway.

Five Hours From Paris

To fall in love with someone when you are already married. Not good.

Five Hours From Paris is a sweet romantic film set in Tel Aviv. Recommended!

Soul Kitchen

I haven’t seen a German movie for ages and I don’t recall ever seeing a German comedy. Soul Kitchen is set in Hamburg where two German brothers of Greek origin run a restaurant and get into a number of difficulties including gambling, debts, the health department and of course girl troubles. It’s fairly light and funny in parts but it got a bit silly at the end.
